Your question isn't here?
That's no problem, we just can't know all the answers. So, if you could, please let us know.
Home improvement is no easy process. We know you may have some tough
questions along the way. To help ease the process for finding local,
professional painters, Sendek Painting, a shelby township painter has
put together some of our most frequent questions from
our customers, not because we're
sick of
answering them, but because we want your decision to be made with no
worries.
That's no problem, we just can't know all the answers. So, if you could, please let us know.
- Is it necessary to powerwash my exterior before painting it?
Not every exterior requires a power-wash before painting. Power-washing is necessary when the exterior of your house has mold growing or is excessively dirty. A general rule of thumb to keep in mind before painting is that all surfaces should be clean, dry, and dull. Painting over a dirty surface can and will lead to premature failure of the paint. Mold will continue to grow even when painted over and will eventually begin to show through the painted surface.
- What type of finish should I use for the interior of my house, Flat or Satin?
This is probably the single most asked question, and the answer is always the same. Both finishes have their pros and cons.
Flat finishes are great for hiding drywall imperfections because they don’t flash. Flat finishes have virtually no sheen so the highs and lows of a wall are less visible. The drawback of using Flat paint is that it can’t be wiped or washed. If you were to wipe a Flat painted surface, you’d notice that the paint’s pigment comes off very easily (we don’t recommend that you try this) leaving a very noticeable burnish on the wall.
Satin finishes on the other hand are great for cleaning with a damp rag, and with some products, can even be washed without affecting the integrity of the painted surface. Satin finishes vary in sheen from one company’s product to another, but are generally one of the lowest sheens available. The biggest drawback with a Satin finish is that it reacts to light just the opposite as a Flat finish does. Satin finishes tend to reveal drywall repairs more easily because of their reflective quality. When a light source of any kind (natural or artificial) is cast on a Satin finish, small shadows form on all of the wall’s imperfections. Rooms that have a lot of natural light sources can make drywall that is in poor condition look even worse. - How long will it take to complete my project?
Generally speaking, most projects that we do are done relatively quickly. Standard sized rooms usually take less than a day to complete per, and most of the exteriors that we do take about a week. These are just general timeframes for completion, whereas each project can vary depending on the amount of work that is required.
- How long do I have to wait before I can wipe/wash my walls?
Although paint dries to the touch in about an hour, it’s important to understand that it takes approximately a week in order to fully cure. We always recommend waiting a week before attempting to clean a freshly painted surface.
- Am I responsible for picking up the paint?
No. We always deal directly with the company that supplies the materials for your project. We will be responsible for ordering and picking up the materials that are needed.
- Will I receive your contractor discount on the paint that I need to purchase for my project?
Absolutely. One of the benefits of hiring a contractor like us is the discount that you will receive on paint and supplies purchased. If you were to purchase the same materials at a retail paint store, you might end up paying up to 45% more. We receive a discount on almost everything that we purchase, and pass these savings right along to our customers!
- I don’t like the smell of paint or have health concerns, are you aware of any low odor products?
Yes. A lot of paint suppliers today are going green and offer many different products that are low VOC (volatile organic compounds) and/or odorless. If you have a health concern, have small children, or just don’t like the smell, we will always recommend to you a quality product that reduces your exposure to paint fumes.
- Can you help me with coordinating colors?
Yes. We always offer our expert opinion to customers when it comes to color ideas and color coordination. With over 30 years of experience in the industry, we’re well aware of current trends, as well as with what is “in” and what is “out”. Also, virtually every paint supplier nowadays offers custom color-matching, making the entire process that much easier for you to get the colors that you want.
